"One question I needed to know was why the new Athlon4 was released in a mobile format first. Since the new design is offering up to 14% more speed clock for clock when compared with the current Thunderbirds, it seemed like a missed opportunity to kick Intel in the nuts again. We were told that while AMD has been steadily gaining in market share in the desktop segment, their current K6-2/3 mobile processors were not faring as well. From a business sense, they needed to gain a foothold in the lucrative mobile market, and the Athlon4 was the answer."
