"When I first heard these combo's drives were coming out way back when I thought it was a great idea. DVD-R's are still unpractical but why not make a DVD and a CDRW in one drive. It is a great idea if you want to save money or you only have one bay or only one free IDE port. 4 IDE devices is not a lot today, some of us have boards that support 8 IDE drives but most are stuck with only 4. This combo drive from Samsung is an 8x DVD, an 8x writer, a 4x re-writer, and a 32x cd-rom. There are drives that do at least double that in every category, but not a combo drive that does it all."
