The next great feature is the ability to automatically set the latency. When you boot up a computer, SPD (serial presence detect) is information that is stored in EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory) on an SDRAM module that tells your BIOS the ram's size, data, width, speed and voltage. The BIOS then takes this information and uses it to configure the memory for maximum performance and stability. In Mushkin's case the EEPROM automatically sets the ram to CAS2 latency unless otherwise dictated (i.e. setting the latency manually in the BIOS). This is a nifty feature because in the event that your motherboard doesn't allow the setting of latency the ram will do it for you.
