"My colleagues over the PC Hardware Software Division are currently designing a benchmark running on PHP 4.0 and MySQL which should be able to measure a database server performance in the same conditions, platform independent and time accurate. I am not going to detail the benchmark procedure but I want to insist on the legitimate of Linux benchmarking. System administrators know that's very hard to choose between two servers because even if the time to complete a certain operation on one of them may be smaller that doesn't necessary mean that it's a worst box than the other one."
