"Basically the silent drive is a plastic enclosure lined with acoustic foam, this stops a lot of the noise (up to 90%!), in particular the annoying “whining” sounds that most disks emit.
This unit fits in to a 5.25” slot, and is fixed by screwing the metal sides into the chosen drive bay. To keep vibrations down to a minimum, the drive does not make contact with these aluminium plates at any point.....
....Once the disk is in the silent-drive, you need to plug in the IDE cable, and then insert the foam cover plate. If you have done this correctly you will be left with a hole lined up with the molex connector on the drive, in which you insert your power connector. Now just pop the top on and we are ready to do some testing."
