Today, let's take a look at a different way of reducing noise. A method that does not involve using slower fans. Best of all, it suppresses all kinds ofnoise, not just those coming from your computer. What's this method?
Well, it's called Active Noise Reduction or ANR in short. If you have not heard of it, that's okay. It's not used in computers anyway. Instead, you will find it used in specialized headsets used by pilots. But this technology is now being implemented in headsets and headphones for personal use. How well will such a technology work in an environment outside of an airplane? To find out, I recently got hold of one of the top personal ANR headsets - the Bose QuietComfort. I am currently running tests on it to see
how well it performs as a noise protector at the desktop as well as its suitability as a mobile headset. In the meantime, I have posted a preview of the Bose QuietComfort headset.
