SirCam Virus Overload Continues - SirCam Virus Overload Continues
Tue Jul 24, 2001 | 6:47P| PermaLink
Judging by the number of emails I keep getting with your personal files from YOUR "My Documents" folder, many of you have been infected by the SirCam Virus.

Please go to and clean your computers.

Here's a virus tip, NEVER open any attachments unless your name is in the body of the email, or you are specifically expecting something from a person you know. Above all, never, NEVER open any attachments with a ".exe" extension.

Sircam is a mass mailing virus that uses Microsoft Outlook Express to distribute itself, according to Trend Micro. It attempts to evade detection by arriving with a random subject line and an attachment by the same name. But Sircam is particularly nasty since it can send out personal documents saved on the hard drive. F-Secure's anti-virus warning described Sircam's message like this:

Subject: Document file name (without extension)
From: []
To: []>

Hi! How are you?

I send you this file in order to have your advice

See you later. Thanks
