The AMD Athlon represents the current pinnacle in overclockable processors. With prices reaching an all time low, even the powerful Thunderbird 1.0 GHz can be readily found for well under $70 through OEM channels. Add in the potential for a 300 to 400 MHz overclock, and the performance to price ratio of this processor is incredible. A similar product would have cost over $500 just one year ago, thus the prices are failing fast. With this explosion in popularity due to price, the Athlon is perhaps the most desirable chip ever offered to the overclocking community.
