ECS K7VTA3 motherboard - FrostyTech.com ECS K7VTA3 motherboard
Wed Sep 26, 2001 | 12:22A| PermaLink
Today we will take a look at a low-budget Socket A DDR solution from ECS. This board is designed for those of us that lack the funds to be able to go out and buy a $150 motherboard, but still want AMD Athlon and DDR-SDRAM performance. ECS's K7VTA3 is based on VIA's KT266 chipset, and packs quite a punch for the price (only $73 on PriceWatch). VIA's KT266 is by no means a fast chipset, as it performs lower than all other Socket A DDR chipsets on the market, and it is currently being replaced by the KT266A - a much more powerful chipset. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive Socket A DDR motherboard that gets the job done and you don't care about 5 or 10 FPS in Quake III, ECS may have the answer with the K7VTA3. We took a very close look at the board to see what you sacrifice when you buy a $73 Socket A DDR motherboard, and really ran the board through its paces.
