The drive still carries the 75GXP's 2mb buffer and supports Tagged Command Queuing and Rotational Position Optimization for faster transfers in WinNT and Unix applications. The 60GXP features second generation load/unload head ramps which in turn protect data from physical damage. Also, glass media is to thank for a smoother disk surface and a great resistance to shock. The new drive is noticeably quieter than previous models, actually only 3.1 Bels. This is due to the ceramic spindle bearings that reduce noise to that of 5400rpm drives or even better. Furthermore, the drive supports known utilities like TrueTrack, error logging, IBM's Drive Fitness Test, and S.M.A.R.T capability (shuts down your system if your HDD starts to malfunction).
