OUR RECENT NEWS STORY about ATI's apparent decision to continue playing clock speed games with their OEM and retail cards garnered a fair amount of attention. ATI's practice here is questionable. They are selling Radeon 8500 retail units clocked at 275MHz core/550MHz (275MHz DDR) memory. These units are the same ones ATI sent out to reviewers, so press reviews of the Radeon 8500 product include tests on a card clocked at 275MHz/275MHz. However, the "white box" OEM cards ATI sells to PC manufacturers are clocked at only 250/500MHz.
