The light on the unit is moderately powerful. It's not bright enough to be distracting, but it's bright enough to generate quite a good amount of light. The light is actually located at the base of the unit, and the top canopy reflects the light down. The canopy can be adjusted vertically as well as on it's axis to direct the light precisely where you want it. The entire base of the unit also swivels back and fourth to further direct the light. The Eclipse was very well engineered. It's easy to tell that a lot of time and effort was spent perfecting it. There's a simple on-off switch on the front of the unit
