"I tested the LCD by sending some text to the display, and all working fine! Phew! I went on to install a program called 'LCD Center' which will allow me to make my own profiles to display. But as LCD Centre is only writen in VB, its a little unstable. Every now and again I made a mistake and LCD Centre just crashed, and would only work again after a system restart. Also, sometimes when LCD Centre is loaded, it only initialises the top line of the LCD screen, and so you have to close and re-load LCD Centre, which is annoying. Once you have your Profiles made and working fine, the software wont give you any hastle.
So what am I getting at? Well, the actual LCD units themselves are great, they work fine and will display anything that is thrown at them, but the only thing lacking at the moment is good software to actually display the info on the screen without crashing, throwing up errors and requiring a full system restart. The price? Well, PcMods are charging $89.99. This is the equivalent of about £75, which is a hefty price to pay for a 16x2 LCD which is worth about £10, plus cables and all the rest of the kit. Note - these have to be imported from the US if bought from PcMods.com"
