Asus K7V Mobo - Asus K7V Mobo
Mon Aug 14, 2000 | 12:09P| PermaLink
"The ASUS K7V is ASUS's second attempt at the SLOT A Athlon motherboard market. ASUS's first Athlon motherboard was the ASUS K7M which was based on the AMD 750 Irongate Northbridge and VIA VT82C686A super Southbridge. ASUS released two versions of this board 1.02 was the first board to stray from the AMD Fester reference design. The 1.02 series board could be noticed by a huge, long, gray metal heatsink between the CPU Slot A and the external preferable connectors. 1.04 was a re-design of the PCB to allow better cooling and so the huge heatsink between the Slot A and the external preferable was removed. This board, like 90% of all other Irongate based SLOT A motherboards had problems with running GeForce graphic cards in AGP2x mode, the TNT2U also experienced some problems when running with sidebanding enabled. AGP2x was fine but Sidebanding was a no go, crashes and blue screens were a result of the rushed AMD Irongate chipset. When VIA released the Apollo KX133 Chipset ASUS once again jumped in and stated its new motherboard, the K7V."
