"There has to be a downside to a non-dedicated 64-bit architecture right? Of course, Intel is using a whole new architecture, they are getting rid of x86 in their Itanium processor. Like I mentioned earlier, x86 was created over 20 years ago, so there are bound to be some problems. By keeping x86 architecture within their "Hammer" processor, they are bringing all the problems that come along with it, although AMD believes that performance has more to do with the way the instruction set is implemented rather than the actual instruction set itself."
