"The Astra 3400 scans images at 600 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch) in crisp 42-bit color using an internal 14-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. Its exclusive Intelligent Image Process Engine (IIPE) automatically detects whether a document or photograph would best be rendered in color, grayscale, or black and white. Unlike most scanners, the Astra 3400 does not require the user to define media type, color type or size. IIPE technology also determines the optimal resolution, auto-crops the image area, and even rotates the output to the correct orientation if the source image is askew on the scanner bed."
