BetaNews has the GigaHertz Fever today, with a couple of articles devoted to the subject, or maybe just creating the hype for it. Anyhow they report that by the end of this week IBM will lift the curtain on a processor capable of doing 4.5 GHz. This Wunderkind supposidly consumes half the power of an unspecified processor (half the power of a TM5400 would be impressive). If the chip ever makes it to market it will be around y2k+4. Using Interlocked Pipeline CMOS, the Wunderkind has multiple independent clocks running different operations within the one die. How does it work? No idea...
