"With the chip race heating up between Intel and AMD, it has become imperative for both companies to not only keep up in the MHz race, but to also stay ahead in the technology realm. With their Pentium III reaching the end of its technological life, Intel had to start searching for new ways to get beyond their existing chip technology that was based of the same core design as the original Pentium Pro.

Although Intel was pushing very hard to get it implemented in a rapid fashion, it was the marketplace that finally dictated it was too expensive over standard PC133 SDRAM."
