"Invention is the unique assembly of the old to produce the new, while a discovery is finding something that already existed. With this understanding, does it make sense for a company to patent the human genome? Was something invented or discovered? A better question might be, could you imagine Balboa copyrighting the Pacific Ocean when he discovered it? Right now, programming is inventing, but the quantum computer could metabolize all coding to a process of discovery."
