Noise levels are really not much of an issue with 1U coolers as SCSI hard drives, case fans and other devices in the rack a lot more noise. However, if you would still like to listen to this heatsink click on the FrostyTech Headphone icon below.

The initial results are not that great as we look under the small interface die 100W test results column. A temperature of 108 degrees Celsius at 100W load indicates this heatsink is well over its limits.

Compared to the other 1U coolers here, the Thermaltake 1U extruded doesn't seem like it is really going be a good alternative for current processors. Even the results of the 100W test on the large interface die are disappointing. However, the cooler does seem to handle the 50W tests a little better, perhaps hinting at a now aged design.

In the final rise above ambient results we can see where each cooler stands, set aside from the fluctuations of ambient temperature. The Thermaltake 1U extruded heatsink is still only managing to bring itself in at about mid-level in this list of reference 1U heatsinks, but that seems to be about the best it can do.

The results for the 50W tests on the small interface die are actually quite good now that we can see things more clearly, so for this heatsink, that level of processor heat production would be its limit.

In the end, the Thermaltake DTFCF014-1 is capable of good cooling on low-powered (~50Watts) processors in the 1U environment. It is not suitable for processors which produce high amount of heat however.
