Abstract: The DTA-15 looks very similar to the Thermalright CB-6L on the outset, but on closer inspection the DTA-15 is not nearly as chromed, and has a slightly different extrusion pattern.
The Fan: A standard 60mm fan tops of the
DTA-15 and provides it with a low-power source of quiet cooling. The fan
draws 0.20A and connects via a 3-pin fan header on the motherboard.
There is no fan shroud to help direct fan airflow.
Heatsink Top: The
fan attaches directly to the heatsink fins and is held off about
1mm from the tips. There is no notch on the clip to
prevent the heatsink from moving while installed (as in sliding down) and the fins have
a smooth finish.
Side A:
The base bows out at the top slightly and the
copper is firmly held in position by two little aluminum channels that keep
it oriented properly during soldering. Each fin is about 0.75mm thick and spaced 1.25mm
apart. The fins are 20mm in height. The base plate is 6mm thick,
and the copper heatspreader 2mm.
Side B: The clip uses a screwdriver to engage and clips on with a moderate
amount of force. The sides of the heatsink are not cut to help allow
exhaust air to escape.
Heatsink Base: Base finish is fairly flat, but not smooth. The copper plate looks
as though it was once very well finished, but by handling and
manufacturing has sustained a good set of scratches and small dings.
A few minutes of lapping would do wonders to smooth things
over.
