Vantec GSN-7025 Heatsink From All Angles
The Fan:
The 70mm fan has 7 fan blades and draws 3.6watts. The unit is protected by a fan grill and is a nice chunky 25mm thick. The fan attaches to the heatsink directly and is held off 4mm above the fins for improved airflow. The fan connects via a 3-pin connector to the fan header on the motherboard and supports RPM monitoring.

Heatsink Top:
The clip is pretty complex and actually fits on the heatsink between two set of fins in the center. The heatsink is 83mm long like all heatsinks designed to fit the HSRM used in conjunction with the socker 478 formfactor. The clipping strength the GSN-7025 places on the processor is moderate, and sufficient.

Side A:
A side shot of the GSN-7025 shows the extra sets of fins on the outside of the cooler. Since these fins shoot off of a vane 1mm thick it is debateable how much of an impact they really have. There are no side cuts so all exhaust air is forced to leave by the left or right side. The clips are easy to engage, and remove. Tension is moderate, and shouldn't cause the motherboard PCB to bend.
Side B:
On the GSN-7015 there were only 22 fins, but on this cooler that number has been raised to 25. The small difference does increase surface area. Each fin is between 0.75-1.0mm thick and spaced 1.5mm apart. The base plate is 9mm thick, which goes against the norm of 6mm we see on most heatsinks.
Heatsink Base:
The base on the GSN-7025 has been sanded smooth after extrusion and is smooth, and quite flat. There are obviously marks from the sanding process, and so a good quality thermal compound is advisable.
