The Fan: Pay
no attention to the Vantec fan, the original was damaged during shipping. The original fan, and the Vantec version we used for testing were virtually identical... I say virtually because I can't remember if it was a Delta fan or not. In any case, the fan was 10mm thick 60mm fan that connected to the motherboard via a 3-pin power connector with RPM monitoring.
Heatsink Top:
The heatsink is really just a sliver of material,
but one that should give us pretty good performance characteristics. Each of the aluminum fins has scalloped
surface and is slightly bent away from the center to ensure good turbulence, and airflow.
Fins are spaced 2-2.5mm apart and are typically 1mm thick. The clip
sits in a cut away section 6.5mm wide and 9mm deep, leaving
a base thickness there of only 5mm.
Side A:
The clip requires a screwdriver
and at least has guides on either side to help prevent the tool from slipping
out of the small catch. It is easy to engage and holds the unit in place with a good amount
of pressure.
Side B: At 14mm tall, including the fan, the Arkua 6149
is not one of the largest heatsink to come across our
desk. The fins are spaced about 2.5mm apart and are slightly
tapered.
Heatsink Base: The base finish of the 6149 is machined flat, but a bit rough as
machining marks can be felt of you draw a fingernail over the surface. The
base is undercut 1mm to allow clearance for the socket cam arm.
