Abstract: An outer frame of thicker aluminum plate provides the means for the Nidec fan to be attached and keep the aluminum fins in place. The fins are formed in such a way that they are all interlocked.

The Fan:
This heatsink uses a double ball bearing Nidec fan. Nidec have been known for making very good quality fans and it is rare to see them used on heatsinks for the mass market. The 11-bladed fan connects directly to the motherboard via a 3-pin fan header.

Heatsink Top:
After removing the fan it is a bit easier to see what sets the Neng Tyi construction method aside from other thin-fin heatsink. Each of the fins is an individual bit of aluminum sheet metal which has been formed in such a way as to be interlocking with its neighbors. The
clip requires the use of a flat head screw driver to engage. It is a bit stiff but there are no concerns with breaking a chip as the force is not that extreme.

Side B:
From the side we can see the 5mm thick copper plate which forms the base of the KA06 heatsink. The group of aluminum fins is attached to the base by means of what appears to be a thermal adhesive. There are 24 aluminum fins in total.

Each fin is 0.75mm thick, spaced 2mm from one-another and 28mm in height.

Heatsink Base:
While a green Bergquist pad was included with the heatsink, we removed it before our testing. The copper base is simply stamped out and shows it. There is a recess for the socket cam arm, and several manufacturing marks (for correct positioning of the fins). The base is fairly flat over the direct center where the core of the heatsink mounts, but is roughly finished as a hole.

Time to test out the Neng Tyi KA06 copper-aluminum heatsink on the Frosty Synthetic Temperature Test platform and compare it with several other reference heatsinks.
