The Globalwin CPS25603-16 can shake its OEM tendencies when compared to our reference heatsinks. Out of the 10 heatsinks we compared it against, it comes in dead last - better than the stock Intel, but still dead last. This isn't really surpr ising since many of the other heatsinks are more geared towards performance.

Lets take a look at the rise above ambient temperature results.

Rise Above Ambient Temperature (C)
Mfg. Model with large block with small block
1 Blizzard S370-L 26.6 28.9
2 Thermoengine V60-4210 18.9 22.6
3 Zalman CNPS3100 29.5 22.8
4 GlobalWin WBK 38 18.9 24.4
5 Thermaltake Volcano II 25.2 26.7
6 Zalman CNPS3000 27.4 27.5
7 Zalman CNPS2005 28.8 27.8
8 Thermaltake SuperOrb 23.6 34.5
9 Vantec GSW-6015 22.0 38.2
10 Globalwin CPS25603-16 38.7 44.1+

Again, the Globalwin comes in dead last out of all the reference heatsinks. Our thermistor only reads up to 70 degrees C which is why the temperature is listed as 44.1+ degrees. While this heatsink would be acceptable on a older socket 370 PGA Celeron, it most definitely is not suitable for any FC-PGA or Socket A processors.

The CPS25603-16 simply doesn't have the capability to handle and remove the heat it absorbs from the processor effectively.

Conclusions:

The old adage, you get what you pay for is more than obvious with the CPS25603-16. This Globalwin cooler looks menacing, but really has no bite. For its size we really expected it to deliver results with the small copper die template of under 70 degrees, a feat which it was unable to do. For older processors like the PGA Celerons, this now outdated heatsink would have been more than adequate. For the current line of processors coming out from AMD and Intel it really isn't equipped to deal with them.

If you encounter this heatsink in a store you'll be better off moving to something better designed for FC-PGA or socket A processors. The era of thick stocky pins is over in heatsink design, newer thinner fined heatsinks are leaving scant room for competition.
