For our testing we used a fairly overclockable Intel Celeron 366. Using passive cooling this particular chip was able to achieve 550 Mhz at 2.3 volts 100% stable. Unfortunately, we didn't have any orphan CPUs to do any type of testing.

In the charts below we compared the Globalwin FEP-32 which is a superior socket passive cooler, with the MC 370-2. The Celeron 366 was set at 2.3 volts at all speeds.

You can clearly see the awesome capabilities of the MC 370-2. It allowed us to go to a 100% stable 605 Mhz, and it even posted at an amazing 682 Mhz. It's interesting to note that, at 550 Mhz the globalwin FEP-32 kept our celeron at a respectable 95 degrees Fahrenheit, but at the same speed, the MC 370 kept our Celeron at a very health 86 degrees Fahrenheit. As a matter of fact, even at 605 Mhz, the MC 370 managed to keep our Celeron at the same 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

We never really experienced Swiftech's claimed 64 degree operating temperature for the MC 370, but then again, we didn't use Swiftech's awesome computer case which allowed for below ambient system temperatures. Our system temperature hovered around 116 degrees Fahrenheit.

Based on the above tests, the smaller heatsink for the MC 370-2 doesn't seem to be too much of a problem considering our results. Remember though, your mileage may vary depending on how overclockable your processor is. Obviously we used a good quality CPU which was overclockable enough even with passive cooling, so the MC 370 allowed us to go to the next level of overclocking.

Some processors will not overclock past a certain point no matter how cool you keep them. Unless of course you are running a super cooler such as a Kryotech type of setup. Under such extreme low temperatures you are in fact changing the operating characteristics of your CPU, so what I just said in no longer valid in that situation.

So, we've seen how fast we can go using Swiftech's MC 370-2, how about we take a look at some numbers and see if it's all worth it.
