Abstract: On the test bench today is Raijintek's Aidos heatsink, a sub-compact tower cooler that stands just 137mm tall. The Aidos heatsink positions itself as an ideal CPU cooler for height limited computer cases or sub-95W TDP processors that really don't require big and heavy thermal solutions to get the job done.

360° View - Raijintek Aidos Heatsink

Raijintek's Aidos heatsink ships with a 92mm PWM fan. The 137mm tall cooler incorporates four 6mm diameter copper heatpipes which are exposed at the base and make direct contact with the CPU. Each aluminum fin measures 0.3mm thick and is spaced 2.0mm from the next. The bottom-most fin is elevated 34mm above the base for clearance.

From the side we clearly see four 6mm diameter copper heat pipes, spaced 12mm on center.

The exposed heatpipes on the base of the Raijintek Aidos create a usable surface area of 41x45mm. Looking at the top of the heatsink, the heatpipes are spaced 54mm apart so as to be in the highest airflow region.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineer's straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axes.

The exposed heatpipe base of Raijintek's Aidos heatsink has a sanded finish with a surface roughness of approximately ~32 microinches. The base has a rough feel but is perfectly flat in one axis and generally flat in the opposite.
