Glacialtech Igloo 5760 PWM Heatsink Review
Glacialtech Igloo 5760 PWM Heatsink Review
  79%
Abstract: Standing just 88mm tall, the Glacialtech Igloo 5760 PWM heatsink is relatively compact as modern CPU coolers go. Small through it may be, Glacialtech seem to have engineered it in just the right spots to manage the demanding peak thermal loads of top-end processors like the AMD Phenom II X4.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The 92mm PWM fan has a seven bladed impeller that rotates at between 1100-2000RPM. The fan is held on the Igloo 5760 PWM with wire brackets so cleaning dust from the top of the fins is not difficult. Each aluminum fin measures 0.3mm thick and the fins spaced 1.5mm apart. Note the three 8mm diameter heat pipes.

The 8mm diameter copper heat pipes are set side-by-side at the base and expand to 25mm spacing where they intersect the nickel plated aluminum fins. The heatpipes are flattened and soldered to a 1mm thick copper base plate on the bottom of the heatsink, the aluminum fins are press fit over the heatpipes. The upper portion of the 5760 PWM heatsink is offset slightly and elevated ~30mm for clearance of nearby motherboard components.

Note the wavy leading edge of the aluminum fins and the placement of the 8mm diameter heatpipes within 6mm of the top of the fins. This is done to ease airflow resistance and get the most benefit from higher airflow at the leading edge just below the fan. The nickel plated copper base plate is 1mm thick, highly polished, 38x40mm in size. Grey thermal interface material comes pre-applied.

Up next, sound level measurements and heatsink noise comparisons.
