Cooler Master Hyper Z600 Passive Heatsink Review
Cooler Master Hyper Z600 Passive Heatsink Review
Abstract: Cooler master's Hyper Z600 heatsink is a novel passive CPU heatsink for today's dual core processors. Its' star shape, widely spaced aluminum fins and prodigious number of silvery copper heatpipes allow it to work without the benefit of a fan.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

No fans are included, but the Coolermaster Hyper Z600 heatsink can accommodate one or two 120mm units. The nickel plated aluminum fins measure 0.5mm thick and are spaced 2.0mm and 4.3mm apart. Six 6mm diameter copper heatpipes thread their way through the 109mm tall tower of widely spaced cooling fins. The copper base is a good solid 3.5mm thick.

The Coolermaster Hyper Z600 heatsink is shown here with two of the four plastic fan brackets attached. Each bracket clips onto the side of the heatsink without the need for tools, although the brackets are attached to the 120mm fan with the screws provided.

The base of the Coolermaster Hyper Z600 heatsink is fabricated from a block of nickel-plated copper to which all six copper heatpipes are soldered. Screw holes along the outer edge are for the mounting brackets. The base has a machined surface finish which is very smooth and flat, and measures 37x37mm in size. The top of the heatsink is capped with a stamped aluminum shroud.
