Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E Heatsink Review
Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E Heatsink Review
Abstract: The Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E is a socket 775 Intel heatsink for Pentium D, Core 2 Duo and Celeron processors. Owing to its all-aluminum construction, the Igloo 5057E is probably best used on sub-90W processors.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The Heatsink Fan:
The 25x80x80mm fan spins at a fixed 3200RPM, and is not PWM or thermally responsive. Power is supplied by a standard 3-pin motherboard fan header. The seven-bladed impeller is not protected by a fan grill, but for whatever reason not many LGA775 heatsinks are.

Heatsink Top:
With the fan removed we see a cross section of the aluminum extrusion. The Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E lacks any central copper slug, which is practically a hallmark of this heatsink style. The central aluminum block is 31x31mm in size, and 0.5mm thick aluminum fins radiate out from this ~29mm. The thin fins are spaced about 0.8mm at the base, nearly 3mm at the tips.

Heatsink Side A:
Standing 70mm high, the Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E uses a tool-free clipping system. The clip locks into the PCB holes which surround the LGA775 Intel processor socket.

Heatsink Side B:
The fan attaches at four points to little flanges which are outside the main body of the heatsink. The clips are attached to two steel brackets which are screwed into the body of the Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E heatsink. Brackets for other CPU sockets are not included.

Heatsink Base:
The base of the Glacialtech Igloo 5057 E heatsink is machined flat. A patch of grey thermal compound is applied by the manufacturer. The CPU makes contact with an area that measures 31x31m in size. Surface roughness is equivalent to ~32 microinches, which is considered good.
