Abstract: The Gigabyte G-Power Pro heatsink is a radical design that works very well at medium to high fan speeds. The heatsink is designed to work on AMD Athlon64 socket 754/939/940, Intel Pentium 4 socket 775/478, and AMD K7 socket 462/A/370 processors.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.
The Heatsink Fan:
When this seven-bladed impeller rotates at the full 3200RPM, the G-Power Pro is pretty loud (72 dBA). A fan speed controller allows it to be dialed back to about 1700RPM which produces about 50 dBA noise. The fan draws power from a standard 3-pin motherboard fan header, and supports RPM monitoring. There is no thermal throttling, but there are four bright blue LEDs to illuminate the entire translucent frame.

Heatsink Top:
Looking closely at the tips of the 61 stacked 0.4mm thick aluminum fins reveals that Gigabyte has put a 'knife edge' on the upper side of each to decrease air resistance. Typically, thin metal fins are punched out with a die and the edges have a square profile. When stacked closely (here about 1.5mm separation over a surface of 90x92mm), that square profile can add up and dramatically increase resistance. The four 6mm sintered metal power wick heatpipes are spaced equally through the fins, and are not dependant on orientation to work properly.

Heatsink Side A:
The four 6mm diameter copper heatpipes elevate the finned portion of the heatsink 40mm above the processor. The heatpipes are positioned side-by-side at the base, so the maximum amount of heat is going to be absorbed as quick as possible. Each is roughly 200mm in length. Also note the 4mm plenum under the fan.

The stainless steel plate on the copper base block is removable, and its use is determined by which processor the Gigabyte G-Power Pro heatsink is to be installed upon. The lower edge of the stacked aluminum fins is without the interlocking tabs so that airflow can move laterally outwards and cool near buy components on the motherboard.

Heatsink Side B:
The stainless steel wings on the bottom plate help to align the Gigabyte G-Power Pro heatsink within the K8 socket retention frame. The four nickel plated heatpipes are soldered to each of the nickel-plated 24x92mm aluminum fins they intersect. The solder helps to decrease thermal resistance between the two surfaces.

Heatsink Base:
The 40x44mm copper base has a sanded finish which translates into a surface roughness of ~16 microinches. The heatsink base is pretty flat, and nickel plated like the rest of the unit.
