Abstract: It might be a little strange to be testing out a Socket 754 AMD Athlon64 heatsink, but there are plenty of single-channel DDR Socket 754 processors still out there...

FrostyTech.com Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform. Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

125w thermal test (°c) noise level (dba)
*heatsinks are ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

the frostytech mk.ii platform applies a 125w heat load through a k8 copper interface die to stress the subject heatsink synthetically. examining the results table from those tests shows us that the all-aluminum jetart jak801 k8 heatsink performs satisfactorily, with a rise over ambient temperature of about 33°c.

if we take into consideration the jak801's noise level of about 53dBA for that temperature result, it's pretty clear that there are an abundance of both quieter and better performing heatsinks to select from. The Jetart JAK801 is affordable, and its simple design should limit its application to early model socket 754 processors. The heatsink has a small leg up on the stock socket 754 AMD processor heatsink (Ajigo MF043-044), but the difference is really not large enough to persuade an upgrade in its direction.

Ultimately, the Jetart JAK801 can handle the task of keeping a socket 754 Athlon64 processor within its operating temperatures. The heatsink is inexpensive, and while it is a little noisy (53dBA), the JAK801 is not too loud for office workstation applications.
