This iteration of the Zalman TNN case series was intended to be a high performance gaming machine. The hardware is all as you would expect from such a system, with a couple of exceptions; first the demo PC shown below was equipped with an APC UPS just above the DVD player, and second it has a RAMDrive.

The Zalman TNN silent gaming PC - complete with UPS and RAMDrive.

The small UPS is only used to keep the data on the RAMdrive memory available if the PC is unplugged, or power drops out. While the PC is plugged into the wall, the data integrity is maintained.

The RAMDrive is located just below the videocard. The game is loaded to this drive for fast access and response.

RAMdrives are not much more than a collection of standard DDR or SDRAM on a special adaptor card. The data stored on this volatile memory will vanish unless power is continually fed to the DIMMs. This is why the UPS is critical.
