Abstract: The 2QC/180 is actively cooled with a 15mm-thin squirrel cage fan that intakes air through the body of the heatsink, before exhausting it out through another set of copper fins.

Information not expressly stated in the Final Rise above Ambient Temperature Test Results List concerns the pre-applied thermal pad (we remove this for testing any way), the number of fans on each heatsink, general fan noise and clip force observations, and ambient temperature measurements. As always, FrostyTech's Synthetic Temperature Test results for the Socket 478 Intel Pentium 4 platform are grouped according to the results for the 100W test die.

It's amazing what a difference a little extra copper can make when you are trying to cool a socket 478 processor in space as confined as that of a 1U server. Compared to the 1U Cooljag E44C/180 , which shares a nearly identical design, the extra bulk of the Cooljag 2QC/180 nets it a 6 degree Celsius temperature difference.

This places the Cooljag 2QC/180 at about the middle of the group of 1U heatsinks we have had the chance to test. Its thermal performance is good, and so long as installation with a retention mechanism is not required, a better choice than the E44C/180 model.
