Generally speaking, the noise derived from the fan on the Arkua Q85X7J is moderate. The Q85X-7J's biggest saving grace is that the sound is not high pitched, so there is little chance it will become an issue of 'water torture' over time. To listen to this heatsink for yourself in operation, be sure to click on the little headphones icon below and download the Acoustic Sample MP3 file.

Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements. Measurements are made on the dB (A) scale.

Weighing in at 49.0 dB, the Arkua Q85X-7J is a pretty average heatsink acoustically. It would have been good to see the cooler hit the 40dB mark, but at least at these levels it isn't going to drive anyone crazy.
