Kuthtec KTM2101 CHAOS Copper Core Heatsink Review
Kuthtec KTM2101 CHAOS Copper Core Heatsink Review

Abstract: The swiss cheese appearance of the horizontally mounted cooling fins will give anyone cause for pause, but the central copper core should reassure you that this heatsink is built for one reason.

Kuthtec KTM2101 From All Angles

The Fan:

The 60mm Superred fan draws 0.28A and is a little higher than average in terms of noise production. The fan attaches to the shroud which also keeps it sitting just a little bit above the rest of the heatsink. A 3-pin fan header connects directly to the motherboard for power and RPM sensing.

Top: The fan shroud keeps the base of the fan 6mm above the top most sheet of punched aluminum fin. This space is important for airflow reasons, and also provides a platform for the fan to attach to. The copper core measures just over 22mm in diameter and features a 13mm hole at the top. The hole is about 12mm deep and is not an uncommon feature among heatsinks based on similar principals.

Side A: The stainless steel clip is tool free and works really well. The joint may look a little dodgy, but we haven't had any problems with it thus far. Given the choice between a heatsink with a tool free design, and one which requires a screwdriver to install, I'd go for the former. The fins of the heatsink are ~0.9mm thick, and spaced about 1.0mm apart.
Side B:
Each of the punched out fins are separated by about 1mm and measure 80x61mm in size. The main heatsink component itself is just 46mm in height.

Heatsink Base:

The central copper core is off center so that it will sit squarely on the core of the AMD processor. The core itself measures ~24mm in diameter and is very smooth, and flat. The clipping system is attached directly to the copper section with little pins, so the fulcrum is a fixed point and there is no chance of sliding. The springs are used to hold the fan shroud in place on the rest of the heatsink.
