The Vantec heatsink tests very well initially, but won't be able to hold onto that number 1 spot when we look at the rise above ambient temperatures.

The stock Intel heatsink may be able to out perform most heatsinks in term of sheer quietness, but the Vantec Aeroflow VP4C7040 has better thermal performance. The combination of a TMD fan, a copper core, and the orientation of the fins come together and result in a heatsink which falls under the performance class. All this with a moderate degree of noise production.

The Vantec Aeroflow heatsink fin design is based on a tried and true formula. More of the heatsinks' body is used, and thus working surface area is increased over that of more common impingement heatsinks. Since air does exhaust from the bottom of the heatsink, there is generally some side benefit felt by the processor as well.

The bottom line is that the VP4C7040 offers up some very good performance characteristics, and managed to surprise us even. With all the non-cooling products Vantec have been bringing to market we had begun to wonder if they still had the ability to engineer a good heatsink. The VP4C7040 definitely puts those questions to rest.
