The fan design has a couple of good features that make it ideal for situations when the fan fails, or is accidentally left unplugged for example. The large surface area leaves it ideal for convection cooling and that also translates into a good design for active cooling.

The initial performance results here are pretty good for the all copper cooler and its case mounted fan, but let's see where the final results stand...

The final rise above ambient temperature results outperform the stock intel heatsink which is what we always like to see. With a beautifully flat base, and a very low noise signature the Zalman heatsinks are really good heatsinks to use in combination with a nicely paced Pentium 4 chip.

The updated clips for the heatsink retention mechanism leave you with an installation that takes a fraction of time it used to take removing the motherboard and then reinstalling it.

Add to all this the Fanmate 1 which let the speed of the fan be further adjusted and we are starting to see truly low noise cooling for our mainstream processors. Overall this is a really cool looking heatsink, one that doesn't produce a heck of a lot of noise, and lastly, offers a bit better cooling than the stock Intel heatsink - what more could your really want?
