Thermal Integration TI-S8640L HeatsinK Review

The TI-S8640L and the TI-V86 models are virtually identical save for one very important aspect. This heatsink, TI-S8640L is all aluminum while the TI-V86 employs the use of a solid 20mm copper core to increase thermal spreading to the aluminum fins.

With two almost identical heatsinks you might be tempted to draw conclusions about how much of a difference in performance there is between them. Realistically speaking the copper slug in the TI-V86 can only account for a percentage of the overall cooling capabilities, and this is indeed the case. Where the TI-S8640L picks up is in lower weight and lower manufacturing costs.

Heatsink Specsheet:
  • Model: TI-S8640L
  • Fan: T&T, 5400RPM, 12V, 0.35A.
  • Fan Dim: 15x60x60mm
  • Heatsink Dim: 61x80x60mm
  • HS Material: Extruded Aluminum
  • Mfg by: Thermal Integration
  • Cost: ~$22

Sold By: Thermal Integration
Heatsink Audio Sample Included. Intended for use on Socket 370/A processors.

Thermal Integration make all of their heatsinks in the same manner, with each cooler based upon a large aluminum "X" on its edge, and many fins radiating from that point. With the TI-S86 sitting on its edge, the heatsink dumps all of the exhaust air from the fan on the heat source, cooling it down even more.

The design makes good use of all available surfaces and its performance numbers reinforce this.
