Chauh-Choung DTC-66 Copper Heatsink Review

The fan on this CC-DTA-66 heatsink is 25mm thick and made by Delta. These two facts made us draw conclusions about how fast and noisy it would be, but in fact it is relatively quiet. When we plugged the CC-DTA-66 into our test platform and powered it up we were surprised by just how 'not noisy' it really was. All the while we had assumed that along with the size of the fan, the RPM would be high, which was not either.

A nice change for sure, and one that opens up the use of the DTC-66 to people looking for a bit more cooling than with just aluminum, but who are unwilling to sacrifice higher noise levels for it. Chauh Choung are a Taiwanese manufacturer who are not well known under their own name in North America.

This form of heatsink has been seen under a couple of different manufacturer names, and for the most part it is a good performer. The copper base is thick, and the fins joined to it by dip brazing for an ideal thermal interface as far as we can tell.

The clip is engaged by using a flat head screw driver, but it also clips onto all three notches of the socket, providing improved stability on the core, and lessening the stress placed on individual lugs. The fan shroud is aluminum and attached to the copper base by means of little tabs on either side of the base plate. This helps protect the thin high aspect ratio fin assembly from damage, and directs exhaust airflow.
