Spire 5R057B1M3R 1U Heatsink Review
Spire are more known for their mid-level desktop heatsinks, but they do offer at least one copper 1U cooling solution which we will be looking at today.
The 5R057B1M3R, or Model 5R for short is 24mm tall 1U cooler made from copper fin sections soldered a copper base plate. The base plate features cut-away sections on either side to improve the overall cooling effect and should offer decent cooling if we take into consideration how previous Spire heatsinks have done.
There isn't too much to say about this heatsink, but it
is worth mentioning the importance of using good cooling fans on you processors,
especially if they are AMD based. Intel chips seem to be a bit more forgiving in
the event of a fan failure. If an AMD chip faces this same situation, and
hardware thermal shutdown is not available it could pose serious problems.
Bottom line, test everything you are going to put into a server for at least 24
hours before the server goes online. Chances are that if something is wrong it
will crop up in those first few hours.
