NZXT Havik 120 Heatsink Review

The NZXT Havik 120 heatsink ships with two 120mm FZ fans that attach to either side of the heatsink fin tower. Users can get by with only one fan if they so desire, but as the impeller speed is 1500RPM it's best to use both fans.

The heatsink is constructed from a simple aluminum extrusion and is compatible with socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM3/FM1 AMD processors. Intel processors are not supported at all. Because it lacks any copper, weight is a modest 430 grams. The PWM compliant 95mm fan can be adjusted from 2000RPM to 600RPM as thermal needs change.

The Coolermaster Hyper 612 PWM heatsink stands 163mm tall and weighs a pretty hefty 806 grams. The cooler is compatible with Intel socket 775/1155/1156 and LGA1366 processors, but crucially not LGA2011 Sandy Bridge-E CPUs. AMD socket AM2/AM3/FM1 processors are supported.

On the heatsink test bench today is Xigmatek's Prime SD1484 heatsink which features a few notable changes to the standard, stock tower heatsink Xigmatek offers. The Freezer 13 Pro looks like a big step up from the previous model, but according to Frostytech's heatsink reference charts it works out to a ~3°C drop in temperature at full fan speed. Noise output is maintained at a reasonably quiet level, in part because the 120mm PWM fan utilizes fluid dynamic bearings, but mostly because the fan rotates at a slow speed.
