MCXC370 Heatsink From All Angles
The Fan:
This is a Papst fan and Papst fans are well regarded as fan manufacturers for their good quality and life spans. I guess it all goes back to that mantra of "German Engineering". The five bladed fan connects to a molex power connector and does not support RPM monitoring whatsoever. This may cause problems for some motherboards which actively look for RPM signals from the CPU fan. The impeller has been drilled to reduce vibrations because of uneven weight distribution.

Heatsink Top:
This heatsink still uses relatively thick pins in its construction. The threading texture on the pins improves surface areas. Each pin is 3mm in diameter and 30mm in height. Pins are spaced roughly 1.25mm apart. To reduce resistance, each pin is beveled at the top to allow air to move down in to the body of the cooler much easier.

Side A:
The base pate is 12mm thick. The clips used on this heatsink are wider than the previous ones an securely grab all three teeth on the socket (or two whatever the case may be). The clips are made from stainless steel and are intended to make attaching the MCXC370 simpler, and more reliable.
Side B:
Two rubber washers beneath each of the four mounting screws act as standoffs (4mm distance) and no-doubt reduce vibrations slightly. The base is undercut 2mm to allow clearance over the socket cam arm.
Heatsink Base:
The four holes are for the fan mounting screws and are well out of the way insofar as the processor is concerned. The under cut is rough, but this doesn't matter at all. What really matters to both you and I is the quality of the surface finish, which in this case is both perfectly flat and very smooth. The base is not polished however. There is some discussion about this, some say polished bases are worse then the finish shown here, others disagree.
