Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The 120mm PWM fan on the Titan Cool Idol heatsink spins at 2200RPM by default. An optional fan speed controller can drop that down to 800RPM for quieter operation is desired, or the motherboard BIOS can adjust speed since the fan is PWM compliant. With the fan removed you can see the two halves of the upper aluminum fins positioned over the third lower aluminum fin section.

The Titan Cool Idol stands about 126mm tall. Its raw aluminum fins are press-fit over the six 6mm diameter copper heat pipes, two for each of the three fin sections. The bottom-most fins are elevated 40mm above the base for adequate motherboard clearance. Each fin measures 0.5mm thick and is spaced 2.0mm apart from the next.

The copper base of the Titan Cool Idol heatsink has a polished surface finish and measures 40x33mm. The copper itself is about 1.5mm thick. The weight of the upper portion of the heatsink caused the heatpipes to bend in transit, thus affecting the shape of the heatsink out of the box.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineers straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axis.

The base of the Titan Cool Idol heatsink is machined & polished copper with a surface roughness of approximately ~8 microinches. The copper portion of the base is soldered to the six 6mm diameter copper heatpipes, but when held up to the light large gaps are visible in the base assembly. The surface of the base is generally quite flat in both axis.
